Long and showy tubular flowers, can be bi-colored white at the base mauve pink at the tip or in brighter light darker purplish mauve, from August-March, on medium green foliage. Erect habit about 3' x 2' wide. Very floriferous. It is a Cape Heath from South Africa. Therefore, only hardy to 20 degrees F. We grow them successfully in the greenhouses here in Western Washington with no heat. In the odd very cold spell, we take them into a more protected facility. Needs an acid soil mix. Prune well to keep a good shape.
This has blood lines from South Africa that were imported to Australia and most like a garden hybrid from there derived from E. verticillata. |
